Lewis on the road again

Lewis on the road again

Amelia Lewis is on the road again, to Morocco this week for the Lalla Meryem Cup, a Ladies European Tour event at the Ocean Golf Club.

In another time, Lewis would have made a great co-star for World Golf Hall of Fame member Bob Hope and his “On the Road” movies.

The Jacksonville native will have played five tournaments on three tours in four countries by the time she tees it up on Thursday. Three of those five starts have yielded top-10 finishes, including Sunday’s second place at the LPGA Symetra Tour Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in Winter Haven.

Lewis tied for 13th at the Australian Ladies Masters and finished second, one shot behind Lydia Ko, at the New Zealand Open, both LET events earlier this winter. She tied for fifth at the Symertra Tour’s event in Mesa, AZ, and in her only LPGA start this season, shot even-par through 36 holes but missed the cut by two shots at the RR Donnelley Founders Cup.

Lewis shot 66 and won a Monday qualifier to get into the Founders Cup.

Globe-trotting is nothing new for the 20-year-old Bolles graduate. Lewis played in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, South Africa, China, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates in LET events last year.

In 15 rounds this season, Lewis has a scoring average of 70.2. She’s third on the Symetra Tour money list and sixth on the LET money list.
